incoming e mail blocked

I have been told by the sender that an e mail they have sent has been blocked. The sender is someone I know and trust so I know it is not spam. The strange thing is it seems to be blocked before it gets to my e mail account and does not appear at all, not even in spam. Is there anyway to prevent this? I am using bt web mail not via a mail client such outlook etc.

Does the sender get a non delivery message? If so, what is it? (remove all personal details from the info). Of course, you would need to get your contact to email you via another (for example gmail) address.
