mail.yahoo.com web login redirected to a BT.com page with a dead end

Go to solution

Somehow BT took over the yahoo.com account I have since 14-15 years now but (BT) online support keeps saying is not a BT account when yahoo online support forum is advising it has to do with some BT|Yahoo!Mail security breach from a number of years back and is handled by BT?

I have a week of wasting time trying to find what is the reason for this "seizing" act with no success.

The only connection i would see with BT is some years ago (8-9?) i had the landline from  BT for a couple of years and used the (old) yahoo.com address in my contact details

Can somebody on this forum help, please?

the login pages is normal:

yahoo1.PNG

followed by the password entryyahoo2.PNG

which is accepted (i tried a wrong one and takes me to password reset/ mobile code confirmation with the same result as next) but I am redirected immediately to:

https://www.bt.com/static/includes/account/email/account-information.html

yahoo3.PNG

tried all the links in the page, no success

Disregarding the fact I have the account 3-4 years before moving to UK, opened on the US domain in fact not the UK one, I still tried to reason with BT support via online chat and over the phone but all i had is: not a BT's fault as not a BT email address (so why the logo on the third page: BT @|Yahoo!Mail  !!!)

Worst part, the BT online chat gave me 2 phone numbers from "yahoo support" where 100% was a phishing scam, asked me for mobile code, secret question answer and so on. I hang up the phone and reported the scam attempt to the lady from the online chat, she ask me if I have access to my registered mobile no, calls me back and transfers the call to the same guys who ask me to pay £200 to solve my problem!

If some security team from BT is interested I saved the chat window address link and the chat exchange.

May be some lack of knowledge/incompetence for that specific employee or in the worst case scenario probably insiders in BT support who forward details to scammers

Getting back to my problem, I tried to log in from 5 different laptops, from 2 different locations, from web on my android phone with the same result - BT web page

(the yahoo app on my android 4.4.1 still works - a wonder, as all my online shops, utility accounts are still on my yahoo.com address but i am afraid that will be cut off too sooner or later and will be the spanner throw in the works)

Whilst calling a BT support phone number, one guy asked me to reset the browser, history, cookies, saved login and so on, same result.

In fact another new address i have on yahoo.co.uk still runs ok, i can login, read emails, log off, enter the yahoo.com details and i am forwarded to BT again

Getting desperate now...

Marius

Hi @mariusro,

Welcome to the Community.

I've had to reject your images as they all showed your email address.

I can understand how frustrating this would be and I'm really sorry it's happening. I'll get this looked into for you. Please get in touch with me by clicking on my user name and then on contact the mods. That will let you raise a trouble ticket to us. We'll find out what's happening. It may take us a couple of working days before we can get back in touch with you directly.

Thanks

Re: mail.yahoo.com web login redirected to a BT.com page with a dead end

Hi, welcome to the forums.

This doesn't make sense. Yahoo.com email addresses have nothing to do with BT. The only thing BT were involved with respect to Yahoo email addresses was the address guard system, but these ended yahoo.co.uk

I hope the forum support people respond back to this thread to say what happened.

As for the "scam" this sounds like the help team tried to pass you to the specialist team who do charge.

What you were told by Yahoo online support is complete fiction.

As it sounds like you're not a BT customer, this actually should be dealt with by Yahoo in my view, and how did "they" allow a yahoo.com email address to be apparently associated with BT.

How long have you noticed this issue?

Can you give a bit more detail about different laptops and locations. Does this mean you're using different internet connections, particularly non BTinternet connection. Which ISP are you with?

Hi Andy

If you open the link mentioned in my post you will see both BT and Yahoo logo, just to add to confusion for end users.

My address is a yahoo.com, created on the US server 15 years ago. Moved to UK 11 years ago and had for a number of years a BT landline, switched to EE for another couple of years and now with Sky.

Whilst with BT my yahoo.com address was the one i gave when created the online account (hence why ended on BT's administrated list?)

I rarely check my emails on a web browser as i was using  my android mobile's app and my Ipad's app. I think a couple months ago the web access was still possible. Now i see i am locked out from the web and Ipad's app but the android works for the moment

some different "terminals" i tried and not working:

safari  and yahoo app on my ipad

chrome and IE on lenovo W530 windows 7 64

same on lenovo t430 windows 7 64

same on lenovo x200 windows 7 64

same on surface 4 tablet windows 10 64

Chrome on my Nexus 5

Internet access from

- Sky broadband home

- Verizone internet at work via US as work for a company with multiple international sites and if running a tracert we have internet trough a hub in Dallas - due that i have problems with online payments as we are seen as ordering from US

- O2 wifi hotspots tried too whils having my coffee breaks at costa

- EE 3G on my personal mobile directly or used as hotspot for above

- O2 4G on my mobile as hotspot for above (did not tried as web browser as is a Lumia 930 and i hate the web browsing experience - **bleep** smartphone but brilliant camera and phone)

By the way, as mentioned before i have a yahoo.co.uk address which works with no problem. I log at mail.yahoo.com  with yahoo.co.uk account and it works, log off and i log in  with yahoo.com account does not and if i try the yahoo.co.uk again i get trough with no issues.

Regarding spam/ phising attempt Yahoo does not have phone support https://uk.help.yahoo.com/kb/SLN26180.html

If was a BT specialist team why would they charge me? Would that not mean the solution is under their control?

Top that were asking for the sent via mobile code and answer to the secret question. Is like giving your credit card number, full home address and the 3 digit number on the back of the card. It is called theft attempt

I saved the online conversation log anyway

in the meantime looking on this forum it seems i am not the only one:

Hi @mariusro,

I've had word back from Yahoo to state that your email address is also fixed Smiley Happy You should no longer be redirected to BT Yahoo on your Yahoo address.

Thanks
