How can I find out my smtp password. I know the setting is mail.btinternet.com but cannot remember the password
Solved! Go to Solution.
What are you trying to achieve?
If you are trying to use an email client/app the username is your email address and the password is your email account password.
Thanks for redsponding.
I have tried that. I am receiving e-mails ok but cannot send them out.
Has this problem just started?
Can you send and receive using webmail using a web browser?
What email system are you on. Is it BTYahoo or BTMail. If you are not sure log onto your email via a web browser and check the BT logo. If you see Yahoo you are on the BTYahoo system.
What email client are you using and on what device?
Have you changed any settings or your password?
Thanks for responding
I can receive and send e-mails on my computer with no problem.
The problem is with my Samsung Galaxy J5 which a couple of weeks ago stopped sending out e-mails. I receive them OK.
I have not changed anything on my Samsung.
I have entered the username and password that I use on my Computer and, assuming the password to send out e-mails is the same as the one for receiving them, have entered that password on my Samsung.

You have not said which email system you are on.
When you access your email on your computer is it via a web browser? Have you changed your password of your email account anytime?
If you are able to receive emails it is unlikely to be a password issue especially if you have not changed it at anytime but it is worth checking.
If you are using the standard email app on your Samsung J5 you should check that the settings are as follows:
Account Name: Your email address
Your Name: Self explanatory
Always Cc/Bcc myself: Your Choice
Signature: Your choice
Show images: Your Choice.
Skip to the advance settings and tap on Server Settings:
Email Address: Your BT email address
Password: Your email password.
Incoming Server:
Depending on which type of account you have set up you eill need to have the IMAP or POP3 settings as per this link
http://bt.custhelp.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/44917/kw/bt%20mail/c/6591
Out going server: Settings as per the above link.
Authentication required before sending emails: Make sure the switch is set to be on.
Username: Your email address
Password: Your email password. Ensure that it is correct and the same as the one you have used on your computer.
If your account still does not send emails you could try setting up another email app in order to test it. I use the AquaMail app. There is a free and paid for version. Just use the free version for the test.
Thank you very much for all your help.
I just put in my password again to see what happened and it all now works. I don't know if it was something to do with my phone or the server but all now is well
Thanks once again.
