The moderators post on threads to indicate they will have a look at a problem. They do not post on threads that they will not pursue things. If they did that they would have to post on every thread!
Going back to my original suggestion to increase the server timeout, you seemed to imply there was no setting. I've just checked my Outlook 2021 & there is one there.
Go to File > Account Settings & click on the down arrow in the box to expand the options, the click Server Settings.
The default display is Incoming, which you need to change to Outgoing. In 2021 that's in bold at the bottom of the box. There you should find a slider to adjust the period before an attempt to log onto the the server times out.
If the server is just slow responding then that should give it more time before throwing an error. But if the server isn't responding at all then it will still error eventually. 365 may look different but I'd be surprised if the setting was absent altogether.
Hi, You are not the only one who suffers from this. I constantly do. Have 4 email accounts across the family and the repeated request of a password by outlook is a very common occurrence (even when you can happily long on to webmail). Sometimes it rectifies itself, sometimes it doesn’t. Usually it only applies to one account at any one point which the others working fine but I always worry when adding email to a new device as I never know if the outlook app will work.. The only help I have received from the BT mail support team is to say turn off any vpns otherwise there has been no help or support. It is very frustrating.
I have had this on and off for years even though passwords and server settings are all correct. I have 365 subscription, and as others have said, no problem using outlook webmail, but have the same problem with new outlook, and Thunderbird. Tried everything, had a chat session with Microsoft over a few days, all they do is suggest stuff I have already tried. Bottom line is Microsoft don't know the answer.
My BT email is the standard version, I have 3 email accounts, and the continuous sign in problem can occur on all three email accounts. Of course I could use BT mail which is truly awful, but at least once signed into BT mail it works!
Complete loss as to any next steps, I continue to read the forum for an answer, but no luck yet.
