Not receiving incoming bt emails in Windows 10

Hello, as of this morning I'm having to go into settings and 'repair' my email account by logging in each time to view every single new email.

I can successfully send emails without doing above.

I use new Outlook, on Windows 10, bt email address.

I've completed all steps suggested in google but haven't resolved it.

Is anyone aware of any issues just today?

Thanks, Nicola

Re: Not receiving incoming bt emails in Windows 10

@Nicola137  This is not a 'preachy' email so please don't take offence for me mentioning it.

Standard support for Windows 10 ended in October last year and at present any security updates for Windows 10 will end in October next year. You perhaps ought to be considering if your PC or laptop is compatible, upgrading to Windows 11 26H2 which is the very latest W11 operating system. If your machine is capable of being updated, it will show in the Windows Update section in your settings.

I'm not suggesting that your current use of W10 is affecting your BT Email, but from an security perspective, it absolutely is worth upgrading to W11 if you can. Additionally, Microsoft is currently in the process of changing all of the 2011 security certificates, to the 2023 standard. This will ultimately have an effect on the boot security of your machine if you don't upgrade your system.

Re: Not receiving incoming bt emails in Windows 10

BT (British Telecom) is currently experiencing a confirmed network outage today, September 29, 2026, which has been disrupting its email service since early this morning. Reports of sync and login failures spiked around 12:30 AM BST. [1]
Because the central authentication servers are failing to maintain active sessions, your email client (like Outlook or Apple Mail) keeps losing its connection, forcing you to manually re-enter your password or "repair" the account to force a one-time sync. [1, 2]

What You Can Do Right Now
While BT resolves this backend server issue on their end, you can use these workarounds to access your messages without constantly repairing your application:

  • Switch to Webmail: Log out of your email application and log directly into the official BT Webmail Portal using a web browser. Webmail bypasses IMAP/POP app sync protocols and often works even when third-party apps are failing. [1, 2, 3, 4]
  • Turn Off Wi-Fi (Mobile Device Workaround): If you are attempting to sync on a mobile phone or tablet, try turning off your Wi-Fi and using mobile data to push through emails. During past BT routing glitches, mobile networks have successfully avoided the broken server loops. [1]
  • Avoid Changing Your Password Repeatedly: Since the app keeps prompting you for your credentials, it is easy to assume the password is wrong. Avoid resetting your password multip

Google. It makes sense to me, manually forcing a one-time synch updates my mailbox in Windows but nothing outside of this since midnight last night.

Nothing to do with me using Windows 10 obviously.
