Passwords - does anyone actually know?

Go to solution

I changed the password on my BT account, which uses my bt internet address as username. I thought that on this account there was one password, that worked on both  the account and for accessing the email.

But my emails have worked for 12 hours without seemingly noticing the password change.  Does this mean there are two separate passwords now? I recall there used to be and then there was just one.

I have seen people offer various contradictory opinions on this forum about this. Does actually anybody the situation ?

All I can say is that I have different passwords for my BT account and for accessing BT Mail. I think this is a hangover from the days when Yahoo used to manage BT's email system?

The passwords are independent, but obviously can both be the same if you wish. Changing one doesn't change the other.

Thanks for getting back to me. I used to have two different passwords (for the account and for the email) but then they moved it to being just a shared one for both, for a while. I learned today that they are now different passwords again (but can be set the same, as you say).

All sorted!

I'm not sure they've ever been combined to share the same password? Certainly, I've always had a different password for each going back over 20 years now. Mine have never been shared for both in all that time.
