I am hoping someone can advise. I am not very technically minded and what I have researched so far has not helped me.
We have a BTconnect email and I understand that that you can not keep this if you leave BT. We are hoping to move over to a new provider who has assured me that they can help us have any emails redirected to another email adress. All research I have done would suggest there is no solution as simple as this
Is it as simple as this? Will we still be able to recieve emails this way once the account is closed?

BT Connect is a business email account. You would be better to ask on the BT Business Forum as there may be differences between how a business email account is dealt with when you leave BT than how the BT residential email accounts are dealt with.
