Some e-mails from a safe sender going into spam folser

Some booking confirmation e-mails from Odeon Cinema chain have been going into my spam folder.

So recently I marked two as not spam and added the e-mail address to my safe sender list.

Today I went into the BT e-mail app and a booking confirmation e-mail was in the spam folder. When I clicked on not spam and mark as safe sender, I was told they are already on the safe sender list.

If they are already on thr safe sender list why is the e-mail going in to my spam folder?

Another e-mail from Odeon confirming s food order, did not go into the spam folder, just the cinema ticket booking.

I have no filter set up to send it there.

Cheers

Hi @infobleep

Thanks for coming back to the community and making us aware of the emails going into spam.

I've asked the relevant team to take a look into this and have sent you a private message for some extra details.

Leanne 🙂

I actually have the same question because I’ve experienced something very similar with emails from senders that are definitely legitimate. It’s really confusing when you’ve already marked the address as “not spam” and added it to the safe sender list, yet the messages still end up in the spam folder. In my case, some emails from the same company come through fine, while others usually specific types like confirmations get flagged. That makes it even more frustrating because it shows the domain itself isn’t completely blocked, so it’s hard to understand what’s triggering the filter.

I’m starting to wonder if it’s something to do with how different types of emails are sent, like maybe booking confirmations are sent from a slightly different server or with different authentication settings compared to food order confirmations. Even though they appear to come from the same brand, the backend sending configuration might differ. I’d really appreciate if someone could explain why this happens despite being on the safe sender list, because it doesn’t seem logical from a user point of view and it makes you worry about missing important emails.

Re: Some e-mails from a safe sender going into spam folser

BT spam filters have been the source of frustration for many years. They lurch between being over zealous and over lax.

Nobody at BT will explain what triggers the blocks, nor would you expect them to do so. Not much point in having a spam filters if you are going to tell the spammers how to circumvent them.

@deenjames  Only BT can provide the definitive answer as to why and how their systems deal with spam and the annoyance it causes their customers that use the service.

Seeing as this forum appears ro be littered with untold dozens of threads with complaints about the email service, (just scroll through the last month of threads), I wouldn’t expect a coherent answer anytime soon.

There are email providers that simply don’t have issues dealing with spam. You get what you do or don’t pay for.

@Kimberlin  do you seriously think that BT are going to explain how their spam filters work?

@deenjames

If your confirmation emails have links in them it may be the link triggering the spam filters.

The fact that they are in your spam folder means that the spam system could not "decide" if it was spam or not so it left it for you to decide.

If you know the email address you could try setting up a rule to have emails from that address placed into your Inbox or a different folder that you set up to receive the emails from that sender.

@licquorice  No, not at all, why would they? I was merely pointing out just how poor the email service appears to be by mentioning it’s a continual ongoing issue that seems will never be resolved.

At the end of the day, if folks want to use an ISP email service, that’s on them. They don’t have to, it’s a choice, so they perhaps should just put up with it. There are alternatives.
