Unable to set up email on iPad pro

Go to solution

Hi,

I've seen lots of solutions here for this problem but none of them are working, trying to set up my fathers email on his iPad.  We have had to change his password due to numerous issues with fraud.  We changed his password on his myBT account, but when we try and set up his email on his iPad and get the massage

The mail server "mail.btinternet.com" is not responding. Verify that...

and we are unable to get past the next screen as there is nowhere to put the IMAP details in 😞

Any ideas anyone?

Occasionally there appears to be problems with the BT severs synchronising correctly.

Change your email password again and check that you can still access your email via webmail (on a browser).

If that works you should wait at least an hour and then add the new password to  your iPad and check it works.

If the above does not resolve the problem, when you change your BT password on an iPhone/iPad/Apple device it may only change for INCOMING mail.

To change the outgoing mail password you have to go into Settings; then scroll down to Passwords & Accounts or on older devices Mail, Contacts, Calendars. From there select the BT email account and select the account where it is listed under IMAP.

You will find the details for the account and can change the password for the Incoming server there, the outgoing mail server only shows SMTP and mail.btinternet.com You have to tap on that Primary Server in order to find where the Outgoing password is hidden so you can update it.

If you are still unable to change the password, you should consider deleting the email account from the iPad then turn off the iPad and then restart it and set up the email account again.

When re- setting up the email account on the iPad you are best to set it up manually, using "other" and ensure that you are using the correct settings which are in this link.

What are the settings for outgoing and incoming BT Email servers? | BT Help

EDIT: Check to make sure that your father's email account is associated to his MyBT by logging onto MyBT and going to "Your Products" then "Mail Manage" and also ensure that the Type of email is showing as "Standard" .

Re: Unable to set up email on iPad pro

Hi thanks for the reply,

the link you've sent is a 404 error sorry!!

I've tried the password reset already, but will give it another go, and then try and find the settings if that doesn't work.

When you say passwords and accounts is that in the mail tab?  If so the IMAP server port is 993 and it is using SSL

He is using a 2021 iPad pro with the latest iOS

Thanks again

Nick

I have corrected the link.

The password and accounts is in the "settings" of the iPad

Re: Unable to set up email on iPad pro

I searched on every forum on internet and eventually end up fixing this by setting up your email on a new iPad is usually pretty straightforward. First, make sure you know your email address and password, of course! Then, find the "Settings" app, it's the one with the gears icon. Tap on it, and then scroll down a bit until you see "Mail." Tap that, and then you'll see "Accounts." Hit "Add Account" and then choose your email provider, like Gmail, Yahoo, or Outlook. Just type in your email and password, and most of the time, the iPad will figure out the rest automatically. If it doesn't, you might need to look up some settings for your specific email provider, but that's usually not necessary. Just follow the prompts, and you should be good to go!

If you have problem persist after trying above solution, you can follow for more better instruction below.

@DanielaDustin

You are posting on a thread that is over two years old so hopefully the OP has the problem sorted before now.
