Warning to BT email customers regarding scam emails claiming to be from BT

Go to solution

Not a question, just a warning to BT mail users of a scam email currently doing the rounds.

The emails claim to be from BT, but are coming from different email addresses (although I suspect from the same source originally), and have the subject "Protect your devices against the latest threats with McAfee".

The body of the emails then reads:

Thousands of spam emails have been sent from your email address in the last three days.
To prevent deletion of your email account within the next 48 hours, we need your confirmation.

We recommend that you install an antivirus program; we will select the best one for you.

Obviously, I haven't clicked on any links and have been forwarding the emails to BT and report@phishing.gov.uk before deleting them.

I have received six such emails so far today, all from different email addresses (although, as I said above, I suspect from the same source).

Hopefully BT will be able to investigate and prevent any more of these from getting through to their customers.

I've received another one today, exactly the same as the previous six I received and reported yesterday but from a different email address again. I have reported and forwarded it along with the others.
