Can I have just phone with BT?

Hi all,

I do not have great mobile signal in my area. Even with the addition of Wi Fi calling it is still pants (might need a new phone). I am leaving BT to move to Satellite due to 11 Mbps max (guaranteed 5). 

Does anyone know if I can just have a phone package with BT? I have read some info on the BT help page but I am unsure if this is outdated.

The price of a standalone phone (assuming can get one , which may prove easier said than done) is £32.20 , on a PAYG basis , so around the same price as BT broadband and phone on a relatively ordinary speed profile ,so if you think you can convert to landline only  and it will  a cheap way of maintaining a landline , that’s not the case you probably will save little or nothing , plus as stated getting this organised from a position of a current broadband and pone customer may prove difficult to arrange , and a continuing broadband user ( it’s broadband from any source not just BT ) you don’t qualify for any discount as would a genuine no broadband customer who almost certainly already be a landline only customer , so not need a landline only providing as they would already have it .

Thank you @iniltous but as you say that does not sound good value.

I feel that I also need to point out for other readers that in my area there is also no such thing as a basic package ......it's 11 Mbps (on a good day) or nothing at a price of £89 for just the broadband.

Anyone genuinely paying  £89 for ‘basic’ broadband needs to accept responsibility for that , it’s their inertia, failing to change provider or negotiate, BT ‘basic’ broadband can be had for £27 , that’s the 40Mb profile and anyone on a long line where even that isn’t possible then they would be barking mad to pay for anything more , so if someone doesn’t renew or change provider and allows a price to skyrocket because they are on a legacy deal or price on an out if contract basis paying an uncompetitive price is culpable not the supplier , what’s more even allowing for that £89 seems likely to be an exaggeration, unless it’s not a basic package at all .

No one is tied to BT , even if Openreach are the only network, there are many alternatives to BT on Openreach , and if it’s only Openreach and 11Mb is all that’s can be delivered that’s just physics, it can’t be avoided on a longer line , it’s a slower speed , if on rate adaptive system  like FTTC .

@iniltous  There are people who have been all over this forum who are and will continue to pay absurd monthly bills out of sheer apathy or ignorance. Plus of course there are some customers so weighed down with wads of cash, they genuinely don’t care how much it costs them. I recently discovered this with a neighbour who when we were discussing alternative ISPs they admitted to me that they were paying almost 3 times as much as I was on an almost identical package. It honestly defies all financial logic.
