I can only go on what BT and Ofcom have said and was the case when I was changed.

 What is your "sizeable minority" and where do you get that information?

@gg30340  I can't give a verified number for the size of the minority however I have asked friends and family and asked the question on a forum I run (probably biased to people who understand)

Of the people who could give me an answer 5 out of 396 people who could have answered either had no knowledge or problems. Not a very scientific sample.

SO as a percentage of approx 1.7 so as the estimated population of the UK is 67.1 million (latest figures available) even 1.7% of this is still quite a lot approx 335,000.

As you said not very scientific and you can not extrapolate your selective 396 people  "who could have answered"   to cover the population of the UK bearing in mind that not all of the 67.1 million have their own individual phone line.  

In any event, as I have said, this has been debated and complained about to the nth degree and it ain't going to change.

I share you frustration as I'm sure do many others but the best thing you can do when you find yourself in a hole is to stop digging.

@Les-Gibson You are of course right when I worked for LUL the light at the end of the tunnel was always a train coming.
As you say nothing is going to change, I just wanted to emphasise that everything is not as easy nor better than BT like to make out.

Nor is it as difficult or as bad as some would like to make out!
