FTTP + original line moving to digital voice

Go to solution

We recently upgraded to full fibre 900 from a gfast connection, and were told when ordering that we didnt have to move onto digital voice if we didnt want to as we already had an existing line. So basically we kept the existing line for the phone only and had the fibre line installed just for the fibre broadband.  We recently received an email and a letter informing us that we were being switched over to digital voice and we would just need to plug the phone into the back of the router.

So our setup now is - we have the normal phone line coming in and going to a socket on the landing where our phone base unit is plugged into, then we have 2 other handsets in other rooms that wirelessly connect to this base. Then we have the fibre line coming in to the computer room, where the ONT is located, with this wired via a CAT 7 cable onto the landing to plug into the router where that is located. So when this switch to digital voice happens will I just do what its telling me and plug the phone into the back of the router like it says, or will it be a different process due to having the fibre line. And secondly, will this affect the other 2 handsets that wirelessly connect to my base unit phone?

Thanks, hope that makes sense.

just connect your existing wireless base to the phone socket on the back of the SH2 and your phone will work just like before

Ok thanks, so doing it this way the voice will also use the fibre line? And the existing line will be completely redundant? As the router is connected to the fibre ONT via cat cable and isn't connected to the existing phone socket at all.

Yes, Digital Voice is VOIP via the Hub.

You can either use your existing cordless system plugged into the hub, register your cordless phones to the hub which acts as a DECT base station or use the supplied Digital Voice handsets and  dispense with your existing setup.
