I have switched my broadband service provider from Post Office to BT
and on Mon 17 Aug Open Reach installed FFTP. Later the same day I
received 2x Digital Voice Service handsets as part of the package deal.
Today, Rang 0800 800 151 and asked for my Hub2 to have Voice Service enabled.
The BT fibre b/b tech was unable to configure the service because I have
"an active copper landline with the FFTP installation".
So, I have been supplied, as part of the deal,with 2 x Voice Service handsets
which cannot be used as intended. Having removed two extension sockets
and the wiring in anticipation of replacing them with them the new digital
wifi phones I am stuck with one analogue phone on the remaining socket
in my hallway and no phone in my bedroom which I need at my age (80)
Unable to fix the problem, the online tech person has referred my case on
to another department to resolve the issue. I would have thought that if the
copper landline is causing a conflict with the fibre system (?), they could
disable the copper line and then enable my fibre hub for Voice Service.
Why are Open Reach running dual /hybrid (Fibre+Copper) cable to the house
if the copper line is partially disabling the full fibre upgrade advantages?
Mystified and awaiting a solution.

Openreach have been using a Hybrid of Fibre/Copper Drop Cable because it was around long before CP’s started to use VOiP.
Later this year all FTTP Orders will come with VOiP and they plan to start using a Fibre only Drop Cable.
Also the Digital Voice Service is purely down to the CP and has nothing to do with Openreach whatsoever. They have made their intentions very clear that they will only provide CP’s a DSL Service and what the CP puts down it they are responsible for.
