How do I stop a persistent scam call that changes its number each time?

Really getting frustrated with being called nearly every day. Anyone found an answer to this problem as it is driving me mad.

You can't.

They will keep calling you if they know that they have a "live fish" on the line.

If you answer the call do not say anything until the caller speaks and if it is a call that you don't want just hang up without speaking to the caller. They will eventually move on to some other poor soul.

Re: How do I stop a persistent scam call that changes its number each time?

You could try install a TrueCall Call Blocker or ones of the phones with BT Advanced Call Blocker like this one with the model number'BT 8600'

They have an inbuilt scammer call list, and they have to announce their name before you take the call, this scares most of them away. If they do say their name you have to accept the call. Your friends / family can get straight through if you allow them enough times.

Also contracts now have BT Call Protect, you can read about it and enable it here: https://bt.custhelp.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/56986/~/bt-call-protect---how-to...-guide

The only way I found that worked, is the call guardian phone. Any numbers not saved in your phone book, have to be announced before they get through, so scam calls just hang up.

Haven't had a cold call or scam call in 4 years of having one of these phones and would get them several times a day.

You need caller display for it to work

BT 8600

You can also sign up to the Telephone Preference Service: https://www.tpsonline.org.uk/tps/index.html which is free

'It is the official central opt out register on which you can record your preference not to receive unsolicited sales or marketing calls. It is a legal requirement that all organisations (including charities, voluntary organisations and political parties) do not make such calls to numbers registered on the TPS unless they have your consent to do so.'

Unfortunately scammers, using spoofed numbers do not register with the TPS so that will not stop them. It is only of use to stop legitimate companies.

Don't follow your logic there. It is scammers that are using spoofed numbers that the OP is complaining about so it is certain that the scammers will have not registered with TPS but if you think that it will stop them ....

Re: How do I stop a persistent scam call that changes its number each time?

I don't. At least if they are getting any legitimate cold calls it will stop those. But yes I am aware that scammers don't really care about the TPS. But you might as well put yourself on there.
