So, I have recently renewed contract and noticed that our phone number was stated to be available via online services having always been ex directory. I phoned and a helpful lady promised to correct today. Sure enough she has sent an email confirming the number is now ex directory but, just to confuse me, another email arrived at exactly the same time stating the opposite ( the original order details). I cannot find anywhere via MY BT which shows the status of our phone number . So I really have to phone again or is there an email or virtual help way to get it finally established the status of our number because I wont believe it until I see it. I got the impression the original person who renewed our package didn't understand what ex directory actually meant.

yes, the order just uses the word ' modify' without going into any detail. If it wasn't for the other email being sent at exactly the same time I probably would have accepted it
