I moved into new premises 7 years ago which had FTTP installed. Installation consists of Huawei 4 port modem (ONT) which is supported by BT Battery Backup Unit. The BBU is there, I believe, to facilitate backup of the FVA in the ONT for the PSTN telephone service over the fibre system. Hence the telephone socket 1 on the ONT was utilised.
BT (Openreach) are now moving me over to Digital Voice. This means that the FVA will be redundant. May I assume that the BBU can now be removed as there can be no voice communications over VOIP on power outage even with the BBU installed? The BBU is not capable of supplying sufficient power for the ONT, and, even if it were, the Smart Hub 2 would not be powered up.
