My service is not connected

Got my new advanced digital home phone and it will not connect to the hub despite many attempts. The handset says if I am setting up for the first time (I am), the hub will not be able to connect until my service is activated. How can I connect the service? I thought that would happen automatically? Any help greatly appreciated.

the DV service is automatically started and nothing you can to to start it

if your go to hub manager  enter 192.168.1.254 into your address bar then go to hub manager   is phone number shown and if so is it blue or greyed out?
