Received text saying someone wants to take over landline

I received a text message yesterday saying that a request has been received from someone to take over the landline at our address and to contact Bt if this is wrong by 11April.

This is definitely wrong as we are not moving house.

I’ve logged into MyBT to see if there is anything showing up in there and there isn’t.

Is this a scam text message ? If a bogus request has been received, which dept is best to speak to in order to make sure the request isn’t processed?

thanks

@Samproctorcrook

It could be a mistake, but their should be an official BT number to prevent any take over.

If in doubt, only call this number 0800 800 150.

Mistakes can occur if someone gives the wrong address for their order. It often happens in flats or apartments.

Ring 0800 800 150 or 150 from a BT line, speak with the 'Loyalty' team as they deal with 'loss service requests' and can cancel the 'advice of takeover' on the account, this will stop your services ending.
