Redundant copper Esides

If recontracted to Fibre 1.  FTTC  Broadband with Digital Voice phone and Smarthub2.

When will the redundant copper pair from the PSTN exchange be disconnected from the Digital Line Section

at the cabinet Eside.   Will it be left on like a dead tail until PSTN shutdown?   Anybody know what's planned.

Only Openreach know what's planned.

@mar10

The copper e-sides are still needed for ADSL, and some 2mb business digital serving sections. Remember, not all e-sides end up in the fibre cabinet via tie pairs, there are plenty of through connections.

Re: Redundant copper Esides

At the minute it still connects to an E-Side Cable as it needs to be connected to the LDU in the Exchange for Testing.

They’re making arrangements to stop this though. I’m not entirely sure if the LDU is being moved to the PCP and or DSLAM. Can’t imagine it will be as that’ll be a lot or LDU’s to install and they’re quite big as well so they’d struggle to fit them in, in PCP’s and or DSLAMS.

@Starwire

I suspect that line testing, as its exists at the moment, will be phased out. If a line does not work, then its going to need investigation by Openreach anyway, and as most faults are D-Side, field diagnostics are the only way.

On ADSL connections, the LTS causes more problems than it solves.

Thanks for reply.  It seems likely that there is no plan.

Re: Redundant copper Esides

There is plan, it’s just no one here is privy to exactly what it is and we can only second guess.
