Short Alarm Sound

I have a BT4600 phone system and in the middle of the night was woken by a short loud low pitched sound which lasted for a couple of seconds and woke me up.

I’m not sure if it is from the phone but it’s the only thing I can think of in the room that “could” be the source of the sound. This has happened on a couple of occasions.

I know this is extremely vague but I just wondered if anyone else had had this happen or could throw any light on what it may be?

 Thanks, in hope, and advance.

Regards

David

Re: Short Alarm Sound

If its just a remote handset beeping, then perhaps it lost connection to the base unit, which I think causes it to beep.

If you are on a PSTN connection, then a loss of line voltage can also cause an alarm.

Re: Short Alarm Sound

I think @Keith_Beddoe has hit the nail on the head, this is the most common reason a phone will sound any kind of alarm.

Interestingly enough this model of phone does have an inbuilt alarm clock which you can get to via the menu and scroll down to clock/alarm but I'm sure you would know if you had set this.

Re: Short Alarm Sound

Thanks for your reply.

The phone was on the base and charging so I’m not sure that’s the problem?

Thanks again for your thoughts

@Davewm1

"The phone was on the base and charging so I’m not sure that’s the problem?"

It could be that the rechargeable batteries in the handset are failing - they have a limited life span before they stop taking a charge reliably.

Cordless phone bases usually only supply a very low current "trickle charge", which is not normally sufficient to actually power the handset if the batteries are not working properly.

Re: Short Alarm Sound

Possibly loss of incoming line, I assume you are still on PSTN?

BT used to test the lines overnight, which would cause a short loss of voltage?

It would show as "line cord error".
