Here is the current state of play with the upstairs socket. There are no other sockets left wired in upstairs. Thanks

That is a master socket. If it is not where you want it, move it to where you do and either run a new cable to it from the junction box or utilise one of the existing cables. Connect the cable at the junction box end to the A & B IDC terminals and at the master socket to the terminals that currently have the blue pair connected in your photo.

As @iniltous  said, rocket science it ain't, its just 2 wires point to point.

Thanks 

the upstairs socket is fine where it is then, it’s not in the way 

the cable that runs into it (with the two blue wires attached to the screw pins) comes from the junction box 

what needs to be done to make this box operational? What about the orange white/white orange and green white/white green cables?

So leave the orange wires x 2 and green x 2 unconnected from anything?
