scam

Has anyone else recognised this? I received a call from a genuine Hartlepool number. As I have friends & family there & I recognised the area code I answsered the call. The pre-recorded voice purportedly from BT telling me my line would be cut off if I did not seek help from their engineer. Obvious scam so the call was dropped immediately. However on checking the number I found it was also a genuine telephone number from the Bassi Rajasthan region of India. I knew some scam calls have re-routed through UK numbers before but not that there some genuine Indian numbers the same as UK numbers just missing the +44 international code.

Always be aware.

Re: scam

I received a call just this morning telling me my broadband will be terminated today unless I press 2 on my keypad, I pressed the button to hangup instead. My caller ID told me the call was from 01806612015. Can't BT do something to stop these scams?

Hi, welcome to the forums.

Please don't post in upper case, it's deemed "shouting" and can be hard to read.

As you've posted on an existing thread, you will see that the call is clearly a scam and can be ignored.

The scammers don't care what numbers they call, typically use BT as the reason as BT has the largest amount of customers, and hence can call anyone on a different provider.

If you get similar calls again, simply hang up and get on with your day 🙂

Re: scam

I’ve had numerous calls of this type and have reported them all. Today, however, the recorded message instructed me to press 1 to speak to a BT representative- if I didn’t, I’d be charged with fraud and sent to prison !!!

These scammers are getting a bit too big for their boots now?

Re: scam

Now that's what I call ironic, fraudsters threatening people with prison for fraud 🤣

Sounds like they are getting desperate, but again are attempting to use even possibly scarier tactics to entice people to respond.
