Yesterday my wife received a message for me on her iphone about a request to take over the BT landline. I phoned and was assured this would be stopped . Today she received the same massage agin. I then spoke to someone else at BT ,same number, then recived an email about someone wanting to take over my landline! Phoned again now am informed I have new contract until 2027,this sent to me by email! Phoned about this and was advised the only way a repeat request for take over of phone line could definetly be stopped! They have reduced the contract price and advise now I can leave at any time without penalty! It seems rediculous that repeated attempts to take over a landline without consent of the user can happen,if the only way BT can be sure this has been stopped is to issue a new contract, seems rediculous. If this happens to someone who does not pursue the matter they may find themselves without a phone, many who maintain a landline are elderly, potential for confusion?
you are not alone here is a similar post https://community.bt.com/t5/Bills-Packages/Connection-request-that-has-terminated-my-line/m-p/244038...
Do they advise those effected that they can leave their imposed only answere new contract that they can leave at anytime without penalty I wonder? Given virgins dreadful performance during covid and the excellent broadband and open reach service with BT I will not leave. This absurd situation must leave interesting options for I.D. theft etc
