ASUS DSL-AC88U

Smiley Frustrated Hi all.

I currently use the Asus DSL-AC68u and so far I have no complaints.

I have just seen that the model up, the ASUS DSL-AC88U is in a sale in my town and I wonder if anyone else is using this, if so, what are your thoughts on it.

I have forgot my password for current router so am having to do a factory reset shortly.

Thanks in advance.

Jim

Re: ASUS DSL-AC88U

Compare the specs. For the most part its faster Wifi, also will probably have a faster CPU and more memory. However unless you have had a problem caused by the CPU or memory pointless to upgrade. Also for wifi the increase is a theoretical maximum but how often do you bottleneck the bandwidth on any device ?

Re: ASUS DSL-AC88U

The only potentially useful addition is the G.Fast support that the 68U lacks. I have no idea when that might become useful though.

Re: ASUS DSL-AC88U

Hi Python - can you help me?

I'm struggling to set up the ASUS DSL-AC88U with BT Broadband (not fibre).

What is the PPP username/password?

I've tried bthomehub@btbroadband.com & bthomehub@btinternet.com with password bt, password, etc. but no good. Any ideas?

thanks!!

Re: ASUS DSL-AC88U

You could try factory resetting the Asus, the recessed button at the back, usually hold in till the lights flash.  Then input the settings manually as below in the Internet settings page.  I don't know the order they are in on the Asus but that's what you want for ADSL.

bthomehub@btbroadband.com

bt

MTU 1500

VPI =0

VCI =38

PPPoA

VC based Mux

Re: ASUS DSL-AC88U

thanks for the very quick response.

Didn't work. I have the settings just as below, but just cannot connect to the internet.

I'm wondering if I'm doing something fundamentally wrong?

Do you know of anyone who has successfully accessed the internet using BT Broadband with this router?

Thanks.

Re: ASUS DSL-AC88U

It should work, the ASUS DSL-AC88U supports ADSL/VDSL, so unless your on Infinity where the settings are slightly different you should have no problems.  You could try it in the test socket behind the master socket face plate with a filter.

Infinity settings, just in case.

bthomehub@btbroadband.com

bt

VLAN ID     101

VPI         1

VCI         32

select PPPoE

Re: ASUS DSL-AC88U

Thanks for the extra info, but still didn't work.

I'm confident everything is set up correctly, but just not getting internet.

Very frustrating as with a different third party router I'll presumably have the same problem.

Thanks anyway - I'll post if it ever gets resolved.

Re: ASUS DSL-AC88U

Be interested to know if anyone has got IPTV working successfully on one of these things, and if so what settings you have. Mine is running v1.10.05 build502 Dec. 15, 2017, with the following IPTV settings:

WAN Type: VDSL WAN (PTM)

Multicast Routing: Enabled

WAN Port: WAN1

IGMP Snooping: Enabled

Youview box is hardwired into LAN1 in the router.

Thanks in advance!
