Accessing router using Internet

Go to solution

Yesterday I accessed my BTSmarthub2 and EE Hybrid connect using the internet via Firefox.

To view the connections and devices I had to enter the Admin password from the router.

Today I could access it without entering the admin password.

I had also accessed it from my wife's computer also using Firefox, and again I did not need the admin password to view details. I know I don't save passwords on my computer, but I found that the password was saved on her Firefox account which may have explained the glitch. I removed the bt password from her list of saved passwords.

However I can still see my details after typing in the IP address on my computer without physically entering the admin password.

Any explanations for this please will be very welcome.

I have been advised to change both Wifi and Admin passwords, and also the SSID which I assume is the Wifi network number.

If I do change these do I need to alter the printer settings or will these automatically update?

Your printer will not update. You would need to log it onto the hub with the new details.

You do not need to change the SSiD or router password.

You can access thd hubs basic settings without using the admin password. You only need the password to get into the advance settings in order to change any settings.

Just change the admin password if you want.

Before doing that try clearing the history and cookies from Firefox as it will be Firefox that is remembering the details if it is allowing you to get into the advance settings.

Also be aware that the SH2 takes a while to log you out.  If you go back into it shortly afterwards it will let you straight in again, because it will not have logged you out yet.

As you cannot access it from outside of your own network anyway, this is not quite the security issue it first appears to be.
