Re: BT DNS Servers issue

What operating systems are you using and what antivirus are you using?

When you set to "obtain automatically", can you try switching off your antivirus, restart your computer and assuming the antivirus is still off, see if the "obtain automatically" is still selected.

Remember to turn on your antivirus after checking.

To IHCameron

Have a look in your Programs folder for something like DNSunlocker and uninstall it. I think BT NetProtect had an update this morning, this afternoon it had found a Potentially Unwanted Program (DNS Unlocker). I deleted it and it all went back to normal. I didn't even have to reset it!!

If you do have DNSunlocker on your computer you obviously will need to fully uninstall and clear it.

After running your updated antivirus scanner I would suggest a full scan with Malwarebytes free scanner and after that has completed use ADWcleaner, it will find anything the Malwarbytes misses.

@gg30340, many thanks for this. I have been having the same, very annoying problem and your solution of uninstalling DNSUnlocker worked immediately. Much appreciated

Do you know how it got on there in the first place, is it malware?

Its malware, and its one of the things that BT Protect is there for, to stop you being diverted to fake sites who want to steal your identity/money.

Re: BT DNS Servers issue

As has been said, it is malware. It has probably been installed on your computer if you have recently installed something that you thought was safe. DNSunlocker was probably hidden amongst the install instructions.

Most folk just click to agree to everything rather than looking to see what they are actually installing or it may have been if you have clicked on a link in a dodgy email or website and that has caused the install.

Re: BT DNS Servers issue

In my case I could not access sites I used regularly. Using crude Amazon Silk browser. Solved so far by typing full address http://www.xxxxx.org and then it opened fine.

Simple.
