Does anyone know what this was for, its not affectimg me directly with thr 5gz issue as we have the wifi from hh5 disabled and are using tplink deco wifi instead. When it switched over our box struggled for quite a long while and the activity logs filled up very quickly it settled after a day or so.
It would be useful to know what this update was really for after over 2 yrs of no updates to the hh5a.
Seems I'm experiencing the same issue now too. It says my HUB updated on the 27/02/19. I don't use the wifi often and many of the devices in the household are connected via ethernet apart from phones and Alexa which again I don't use much.
Family members have started to moan about the 5GHz being broken in the past 2 days. The only way to get connected via wireless is disconnecting from 5GHz and connecting to 2.4Ghz instead. Having both connected breaks both from the looks of it. Whenever we have had a wireless issue in the past it was as simple as tapping the HUB5 wireless button, let it do it's resync and the devices could connect to the internet again, no luck this time around though. 5GHz is simply not working. The HUB says wifi active, the phones say connected 5GHz but all devices refuse to connect to the internet with 5GHz enabled.
The only things I haven't tried is a factory reset or a power reset. DLM has already done enough damage to my download speeds with a high SNR with no signs of change so resetting the power will just give me more headaches.
Are BT definitely aware of this issue now?
I received a private message from a moderator who apparently belongs to a specialist team that looks into issues. He asked me to provide all the details of the fault again, which I did. My problems were exactly as you have reported along with many other people. When I replied to him, I commented that since I had been with BT for nearly 30 years, I really thought they could consider giving me a new Home Hub if that would cure the issue. Anyway, eventually, I was told that a replacement HH 5 would be sent, as any replacement had to be ‘like for like’, therefore they could not send a HH 6 or smart hub as it is called. So a hub arrived three days later via the post, and when I unboxed it, it was a HH 6 or smart hub. After installation and splitting the bands again to separate 2.4 and 5GHz SSID’s, it worked fine with all my devices and I have had no further issues. I then received a call from another team member to ask if the replacement HH 5 had fixed the issue, and I then told him that it was a HH 6 so we will never know as the HH 6 has a different software version. So basically, I am non the wiser as no actual statement was made as to whether it is software, hardware or both. All I know is that the rep,acement HH 6 has definitely fixed the issue.
Another alternative router may be a better option, as you can use it with BT, or any other ISP.

Of course, if you are in a contract, then you can ask BT to replace the home hub 5, with a home hub 6.
I phoned faults on Saturday to ask what the update actually was for, all they could find was that it was a general update. On explaining my problems , the call handler asked his manager about it and they have now agreed to send a new smart hub.

This same firmware version seems to have broken my HH5 5ghz Wifi also. I've used a TP-Link VR900 for the past 3 years but it recently starting playing up as is broken so I dug out the old HH5 but we are having issues with devices unable to connect to 5ghz now, often says password is incorrect when it is not and if you do finally manage to get the device to connect there is no internet connection.
Hi -since 2nd week of March all our devices at one time or another have been knocked out of the wifi. We have tried adapter settings, ipconfig/release and renew, reboots of the hub etc etc and we have nearly got them all back . . .(though not quite), and then 'something' happens and we have to start all over again. It can also knock out wired ethernet link, but mostly outcome is wifi connected but no internet. I have diabled the 5ghz completely, so its not that . I DO believe something is not right with this release, it messes up the ip addresses, the adaptors go into a sulk, and one of the above steps eventaulyl get sthem abck, but not always. Older devices more suseptible.

I have also been suffering with 5ghz Wi-fi issues for the last couple of months and after much frustration have only just noticed that the home hub 5a firmware was updated around the time these issues started. Is there a solution yet for the problems it is causing?
