BT Smart Hub - USB Device

Go to solution

Hello BT Community.

I have a BT Smart Hub Type A and have connected a USB external hard drive (Iomega GDHDU 1TB) to the USB port on the rear of the Hub. The hard drive has been detected as it shows up under 'USB' on the Smart Hub Manager. However I cannot 'see' the USB device under 'network' on my MacBook.

Is there anyone who has any further advice? I have tried leaving it plugged in for hours as BT's online chat suggested it can take time for a large hard drive to be detected. I have done several resets and factory resets and still no joy.

Re: BT Smart Hub - USB Device

Hello

I have figured this out last night so here is the solution 🙂

Open Finder

Click Go - Connect To Server

Type SMB://192.168.1.254

Choose "Guest" profile

Then choose the drive as displayed

It will then show on the left in the Finder window as a network drive as 192.168.1.254 and you can use it as needed

I am trying to do this as well. When I follow your instructions it doesn't give any error message but the "Connect to server" dialog box just disappears and nothing else happens.

Might be relevant, but the hub uses SMB1 protocol which is deprecated now on PCs and needs to be enabled from the default disabled state, just wondering if its the same on a MAC.

I should have mentioned that on your own thread.

Ok, thanks. Some other people have suggested using smb://api to connect.

I’m not sure what “api” (apart from application programmers interface)

I don’t know if the drive has a name which can be used in this context?

Thanks 'froosh' - using the 'go' in finder and inputing the router ip address worked.

Simple really - however not that obvious.
