BT SmartHub

Go to solution

Please can someone advise am I able to use my own router instead of the smarthub - I don't want to spend on a decent router to get my setup right and find it does not work

Yes, of course you can. Just make sure it is a VDSL modem/router.

Welcome to this user forum. @advent1307

Of course you can Smiley Wink

Here is one suggestion

TP-Link AC1200 Wireless Dual Band VDSL/ADSL about £67

https://www.tp-link.com/uk/products/details/cat-15_Archer-VR400.html#specifications

Or

Asus DSL-AC68U

https://www.asus.com/uk/Networking/DSLAC68U/

There are also cheaper single band wireless VDSL Moden/routers starting at about £40.

Re: BT SmartHub

As @licquorice  has said, it has to be capable of direct connection to your phone line, so it has to have an integrated modem.

A wireless router is not suitable, unless you buy a separate modem at additional cost and complication.

If you want to mention what you are thinking about, just post the description in plain text, without any links to any commerce sites.

The links I have posted, go the the manufacturers website which show the specifications but not the price.
