BT broadband using google drive

Go to solution

Ive noticed that I now can't use google drive - fails to upload/download/open any files. This is been on going for a while. Today I tried it while connected to my VPN and it works OK. This is clearly something to do with security on BTs network. Can anyone shed any light on this ?

I've never trusted ISP's DNS no matter who it is.

Re: BT broadband using google drive

Well I just wasted a good part of today struggling with authentication, user rights and 'page failed to load 401 error' messages, while trying to share a document with family.

Here were are in June 2020 and BTs DNS servers are still not supporting Google Drive as they should.  The first post I can see here on this topic was in 2014!  Tried different browsers, clearing cookies, re-booting, all a waste of time, no change.

I changed the DNS settings from BT to Google and everything works as it should!  Other DNS servers exist.

Here's what you need to do:

  1. Type 'Network connections' in the Windows search (not the browser)
  2. Right click on the current connection (WiFi or Ethernet if plugged in), then select Properties
  3. On the Network tab, scroll down to Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IPv4), click on it once, then select Properties
  4. In the General tab, select 'Use the following DNS server addresses.
  5. For Preferred, enter 8.8.8.8, Alternative 8.8.4.4.
  6. Click Ok and you're done, Google Drive should work.
