Bt hub wireless ok but no internet on my PC via Ethernet?

I can connect to the internet wirelessly to laptop, iPhone etc but get no internet connection via Ethernet on my PC? I have connected the Ethernet to the laptop and it works fine, just won't work on my PC? I have seen that the new version of Mcafee virus protection may cause the problem and have uninstalled but no good. I get a connection if I do a system restore but drops out again after a few minutes. Any suggestions gratefully received. Thanks.

Re: Bt hub wireless ok but no internet on my PC via Ethernet?

If connecting by Ethernet cable works OK on your laptop it would appear that the problem is with your PC and not the Homehub or the connection.

What operating system is your computer using?

It could be that your computer has IPv6 selected. Try disconnecting it as follows:

Select Start

In the search field type.ncpa.cpl and press enter.

In the new window right click on your wireless network connection and select properties

In “This connection uses the following items” section remove the tick beside Internet Protocol Version 6 (TCP/IPv6) then press OK

Left click on Internet Protocol IPv4, click properties . Check the options to obtain IP address and DNS server address automatically.

Once done try and connect to internet.

Re: Bt hub wireless ok but no internet on my PC via Ethernet?

Thanks for reply. Followed instructions and it worked perfectly.......but only for about a minute. Checked it again and IPV Version 6 still unticked but version 4 keeps reverting the back to "use the following DNS server address" and not obtaining it automatically. Is there any way to make it obtain the DNS address automatically? Thanks

Maybe some software on the PC keeps changing it back?
Trojans often change your DNS settings

Re: Bt hub wireless ok but no internet on my PC via Ethernet?

It is using 127.0.0.1
The IP address is staying automatic but DNS keeps reverting to the above?

Re: Bt hub wireless ok but no internet on my PC via Ethernet?

127.0.0.1 is just a loopback address to your own PC. Try setting  8.8.8.8 manually and see if that sticks

Re: Bt hub wireless ok but no internet on my PC via Ethernet?

Just tried this and worked but within 5 minutes it has reverted itself back to 127.0.0.1, is there anyway of locking this to auto or 8.8.8.8? Have carried out a full system virus scan and all clear?

Re: Bt hub wireless ok but no internet on my PC via Ethernet?

Seems very odd. You could try uninstalling and reinstalling your Network card and updating the drivers from the manufacturers site.
