CWMP session, configuration changes, network drops

Hi folks, I have a HomeHub5 and have been seeing unusual drops in wifi service almost every day, over the last couple of months, at various times of the day but seemingly most frequently around 8-11pm.  The problem is not with our network in general, as wired devices are consistently ok and speed tests on a wired device consistently get an expected speed (~30Mbps down, ~5 up). It affects multiple wifi devices (android, ios, macos, linux). Speed tests on a wifi device vary wildly from the max expected down to almost nothing, and extremely slow page loading on all sites.  Not all wifi devices are affected at the same time, some may be ok whilst others suffer, but all are affected from time to time.

We have about 10 wifi devices connected at any one time during the day typically, and about 7-8 more wired devices connected via a switch.  There is quite a bit of streaming content going on, but typically only on the wired devices.

I have BT Home Hub 5 (Type A) | Software version 4.7.5.1.83.8.264 | Last updated 01/03/19

I started paying close attention to the eventlog and noticed a lot of activity on the router from ACS connecting from https://pbthdm.bt.mo and doing something. I know ACS logins are not malicious, but there does seem to be a lot of "stuff" going on and the timestamp on the activity seems to strongly coincide with the outages we've noticed:

I did a quiet line test to rule out general issues with the connection into the house, no noise heard on that, and as mentioned all wired devices are consistently ok so the issue appears to be limited to the wifi.

Since the last 9 days (~4th Feb) I've done a factory reset on the router, and split the 2.4 & 5 ghz networks. Since then wifi devices on the 5ghz network dont seem to be experiencing the same speed/connection issues, fingers crossed.

So my thoughts are:

 - those CWMP changes and ACS logins - what is actually going on in them, what is being changed, and could that indeed be related to some or all of our outages?

 - would the fact that wifi seems more stable on the 5ghz network point to a hardware fault with the 2.4ghz antenna? Prior to splitting the network I  guess that devices on the 2.4ghz network were having issues whereas ones that were on the 5hgz network were ok.

Thx

Phil
