I'm a student living in an apartment building in southsea, there currently is BT internet for the residents but it's incredibly slow. And I should mention that a small BT DSL square thing is connected to one of the phone sockets in my apartment (I'm assuming it's part of the building's own wifi)
So I'm wondering does all that mean I can get my own broadband or not. I remember the landlord saying I can get my own internet if I wanted.
Ask me any questions to make things clearer, sorry for being such an ignorant child.
Yes you can get broadband. As a student you can get a "Student" deal. See this link
How do those deals work exactly? do I need to install or drill anything?
The max speed you can get will be about 2Mbps. Regarding getting it installed it would depend on what is already installed in the property. It may require drilling, fitting cables and phone sockets. Without checking over the property it is impossible to say.
Nothing to do with deals, its pure physics. Thats as fast as you will get until fibre turns up.
You might be better off investigating 4G mobile services, I think several of the networks are rolling 4G out around Portsmouth/Southsea now.
A 4G dongle would probably cost less than BT too
