Can I have a Ethinet Socket as my master socket???

Go to solution
Hi,
I live in a new build house and the phone sockets were all pre wired when the house was built.
At the moment our modem is on a phone socket with a filter.
The master socket is behind a blanking plate.
Can I put a ethinet Socket where the blank plate in so I can just use the master socket for the modem?
Would appreciate any help or advise.
Many Thanks

Welcome to this user forum.

Which BT Home hub are you using?

What does your master phone socket look like?

Master socket with one socket

Or

Master socket with two sockets

@Sihads

Please can you answer the questions asked?

Which BT Home hub are you using?

Which one is your master phone socket, as shown in the image I posted?

Also, are you on normal BT Broadband, BT Superfast Broadband, or BT Ultrafast Broadband?

I’m on a BT line through sky. The master socket is blank as the engineer from BT couldn’t get it working.

We had 3 BT engineers come out recover it at the main box down the road re do outside with no look.

In the end I went to see the site manager. He came over and it was working in 5 minutes.

There’s a blanking plate by the front door he undone the screws connected the wires hay presto and it was working.

The blanking plate was put back on and it’s still the same with a blanking plate not the master socket.

I’m asking this as I was going to just use the master socket for the Modem. We are on the fastest broadband there is and it’s running 56mbs. The internet keeps dropping out at the Front of the house so was going to relocate the modem to the master socket. Hence I was wondering if I can have a ethinet socket to have the modem running seamlessly.

Many Thanks

@Sihads

This is a BT Retail forum for BT Retail customers only.

This is no such person as a BT Engineeer, they are from Openreach.  Sky would be renting the line off Openreach, its not a BT Retail line.

You will need to ask on the Sky User Forum, http://www.skyuser.co.uk/forum/ as nobody on here would be able to help with this issue.

Thanks
