Can’t connect to Smart Hub 2 through MyBT app

Go to solution

Now that BT has removed access controls from the router manager (mistakenly in my opinion) and forces people to use the MyBt app, I cannot remove or managed any access controls for devices.

I have been unable to connect the app through the “Your WiFi Network”, it will not connect even through manual connection.

I have previously renamed my wifi SSID and changed the default passwords (as not all BT customers want to use default settings), the device I’m using the app on is connected by wifi to the SH2 router but app still can’t see network.

Really trying to avoid factory reset!

Yes, app and firmware are up to date.

Looks like it needs to be reset to original SSID and password, then connect app and rename through app!

Exact same scenario and problem here. This has happened to me after purchasing a new phone.

Why the hell were parental controls taken away from the routers web page!? Stupid.

Hi @Abbasbot, welcome to the community and thanks for posting, you'll find access controls for your Smart Hub 2 in the My BT app. They're now called Wi-Fi controls.

  1. From the app, click More then select Your wi-fi network
  2. Select Control wi-fi access for your devices to manage your screen time online

If you read his post, he knows that. His issue is that the app won't let him access his WiFi network. I have the same issue. I have full Internet access via the Smart Hub 2, but the My BT app will not connect to my network.

I've also changed the network name and password from the default.

with the new MYBT app do you not need to provide the hub serial number when you are setting it up

Re: Can’t connect to Smart Hub 2 through MyBT app

Not sure what that's got to do with the issue.

I have the My BT app installed. I have recently set up my Smart Hub 2. I didn't use the app to do this, I used the Web interface. Part of that set up meant I changed the network name and password. I also changed the admin password.

Everything works fine, I can access the Internet etc.

But, when I login to the My BT app, I am asked to begin setup of my Smart Hub 2. When I get to the stage where it asks me to connect to the network from my phone, I select the network, enter the password, my phone connects to the WiFi, but then I get a message popping up sayibg:

"It wasn't possible to connect to the network. Please try again".

Yet I am literally connected to the network.

@nbanbury

what it has to do with it is identifying the hub and enable you to make changes to the the setting.  if you just connect to same network does not give you admin rights

maybe uninstalling the MYBT app and then re-installing you will go though the setup procedure  I have no problem accessing my SH2 from the MYBT app and ability to change settings or parental controls.  I have also changed the SSID and wifi password from initial settings
