So I maybe better just biting the bullet and buying a TP link router?

Its not good that I cannot monitor my CCTV.

Its your choice, you may like to wait to see if anyone else offers help, it depends on how quickly you want to get things working.

The TP link one is normally available locally, so it can be returned if you are not happy.

Port forwarding is very simple, as shown on this example from my own connection.

I have my webserver on port 80, and my CCTV on port 81.

You need to reserve the IP address of the camera, so it does not change, but that is easy.

Some people have talked about doing a factory reset on the router.

Does this completely wipe the router.  Meaning the router login details would be defaulted, and I would have to enter the broadband user details etc?

No, the login details are stored in firmware, so you could try a factory reset and then try again, as you may have upset the configuration.

Don`t forget to disable smart setup, as that can cause problems.

Re: Cannot Open Ports on BT Home hub 6

Its worth checking your camera settings, especially if you were using it on a another ISP, as the IP subnet, default gateway and DNS server setting will be different.

I assume you can view the camera locally, by going to its IP address?

Its no problem at all, its generic login, and  is not too specific.

This is an image from my website showing the details needed for the TP Link W9970 on a VDSL connection. Full details on this link VDSL (BT FTTC) Setup instructions

Re: Cannot Open Ports on BT Home hub 6

Hi Kieth,

i am also having trouble opening Ports on my BT smart hub (to view my IP cameras), so this thread is of interest to me.

Unfortunately none of the links are working.

Is this due to the age of the thread?

Regards,

Paul
