@licquorice but I can see the site - and I'm on BT. The only slight oddity my end is that I don't use a HH - just an ECI modem and a Deco M5 system. For my own sites I did have to install SSL.
It worked fine until Saturday afternoon when I switched to Linux hosting for the Wordpress site - it’s a local charity so funds are tight (and we don’t need HTTPS) and 2 other sites I run through the same hosting company on Linux hosting are accessible, no VPN required and are HTTP - no hiccups
@Unbelievable The hosting company I use for our village hall (IONOS) doesn't charge extra for HTTPS
@gspearson What DNS servers are you using?
@licquorice I don't know! (Don't tell anyone).
@Unbelievable Ok, just tried Open DNS and that works fine so not a BT problem, a DNS propagation problem.
Ok thanks for update I’m not a networking expert
so dns propagation problem ? How do I fix it ?
so how do I use OpenDNS with a HH6 ?
Sorry the thread is that long I’m not certain who has what now - do you have a standard setup with HH or bespoke router
Ive been into the advanced settings HH6 and can’t change the DNS settings
If it’s not a BT problem with standard setup then why is my mate ( 1 door away) unable to connect to the site whereas another mate on EE can
Ok I’m with Fasthosts and they do charge
You can't fix it, it's down to your hosting company. You can't change DNS server settings on BT home hubs. They can be configured on third party routers or on individual devices if connected to a BT hub.
Thanks been researching after your reply
so if it’s a DNS propagation issue it should correct itself in time when records are updated ?
still confused as to why it’s only standard BT setups which can’t access the site ( other ISPs can) but even with my standard setup once I go through the VPN it’s ok doesn’t that indicate it’s something to with BT ?
I assume the VPN will use its own DNS
down the networking rabbit hole ☹️
