We’ve made the difficult decision to close the Tech Experts service. If you subscribe to this service then it will mean that from the 15th of December you will no longer be able to contact the Tech Expert helpdesk for support or advise.
We are writing to all BT Tech Experts customers to let them know. We do understand that this news may be frustrating, and we want to give you the opportunity to contact us if you have any questions about the closure, and also time to consider alternatives should you want to continue with a similar service.
If you’d like to talk to us about this or any of our other technical support services, please call us on 0800 032 1118.
Below is some additional information,
What is BT Tech Experts?
Tech Experts was an optional service for customers who wanted an extra level of support and advice with technology in their home
When is the BT Tech Experts service closing?
BT’s Tech Experts service closes on the 15th December 2020
Why is the BT Tech Experts service being closed?
We’ve seen a steady decline in usage over recent years, and we made the difficult decision to stop selling the product in 2019.
I’ve already paid for my Tech Expert service beyond the 15th December, how do I get a refund?
We will refund any charges that you have already paid beyond the 15th December, this will appear as a credit on your next bill after the service is closed.
I used the Tech Expert service for specialist tech support, can you recommend any alternative providers that offer similar services?
There are other 3rd party providers that offer technical support services for general household tech, due to the differing types of service that they offer we recommend that you research to ensure they provide the appropriate support you need.
We are sorry for any disappointment that has been caused.
Terrible decision BT, especially as I received no prior notification. Yesterday I was re-directed to 0800800150 and was put on hold for ages and then the person I spoke to was not knowledgeable. How do I now get fast expert support from BT on the phone please when something goes wrong? Please reply. Thanks Graeme
Hi, thanks for your response. Basically I just valued having some experts whom I could easily phone and who always solved whatever problem I was having , whether my internet had gone down, my e-mail wasn't working, or I'd pressed a button or did something stupid I couldn't rectify. I always found them helpful and it was worth the £15 a quarter or whatever it was. I don't see who I can now speak to in BT. Can you advise me on that?
Also I saw something about BT sending someone to your home but can't see how or who you contact to get that.
Any advice appreciated.
Is BT Tech Experts different from BT Home Tech Experts which I'm being offered if I upgrade to Halo3+?
Yes , you used to be able to phone up the Tech Experts and they would instantly take over your machine there and then to solve your problems. It was great, and sadly gone.
I thought the Tech Experts service was a good idea. I used it for a couple of months but then gave up as, unfortunately, for me as a visually impaired person the system to connect to an advisor on one's computer was not accessible to me using a screen reader. I only managed to get it to work once.
The new Home tech Expert service for Halo 2 and 3 customers is just for support with bT Broadband and not for other home technology. I have used it a couple of times and it's quite good. However, I'm not clear how often one can use it.
I was disappointed upon moving house recently to be told my Full Fibre Service can't be connected until 19 April and that I couldn't have a Tech Expert visit until then. This has resulted in me struggling with problems with the Hybrid Connect service, something I've discussed in another thread.
Now if you have problems with your Wi-fi they’ll book a Home Tech Expert to usually within a week to come out to your home. They seem very knowledgeable from what experience I have with them.
Although we’ve not fully resolved our Wi-fi problem as yet and a Home Tech Expert is coming out for the 2nd time this month (not including the specialist broadband engineer that came as well).
hopefully our problems will iron out!
