Compatible QOS router for super hub 2

Go to solution

Hi all..

I do a lot of online gaming in my spare time. But my problem is I only have 60mbs down and 18mbs up.  I have my partner and young kid using Netflix which is 4K or prime, my youngest also video calls here friends whiles doing other stuff (annoying ) So you can imagine my online experience is pretty brutal.
Im hardwired to my Xbox whiles the rest are on WIFImp, which they don’t seems to be effective but only my games lag etc.

So I’m on the highest speed  in my area, so I was wonder if a QOS router would benefit me.  Also how would I connect it? Straight into the socket or from BT hub itself?
Thanks

appreciate any help 🙏🏻

QOS will allow you to apportion bandwidth to devices, if you get a VDSL modem/router it will be a direct replacement for the hub, just plug it in the phone socket.

The cheapest one with QOS, or bandwidth control, is this one. About £35.

You do have to be prepared to spend time on configuring the bandwidth controls to get the optimum settings.

The clue is to give any streaming connections, the lowest priority, and throttle their upload bandwidth to an absolute minimum, as well as reducing the download bandwidth to the minimum required for a acceptable quality stream.

Will do..

Also would my BT disk still work with this router?

If it's a white disc, yes, but if it's a black one it won't. Also bear in mind that the TP Link 9970 is only single band WiFi, it doesn't have 5Ghz capability.

There is no other option, if you are using the black disk from BT, as that only works with the smart hub 2.

Otherwise this one is dual band https://www.tp-link.com/uk/home-networking/dsl-modem-router/archer-vr900/#specifications

The emulator shows bandwidth controls https://emulator.tp-link.com/Archer%20VR900(UN)1.0/index.htm
