Complete Wi-Fi with extender discs

Go to solution

I'm posting here, because BT/EE have not been able to confirm and their website is contradictory on the subject...

I have a Smart Hub 2 and looking to extend Wi-Fi within the house and also to a detached garage.

1) In the garage I have a solar and battery system and this is controlled via a Wi-Fi dongle. Therefore, I need Wi-Fi in the garage, which has a Cat6e connection. Will the disc plug into the Cat6e, connect to the Smart Hub and provide WiFi to the dongle in the garage?

2) I need WiFi extending in the house as well, so would a second disc do that in the house at the same time as the disc is connected in the garage? The one in the house doesn't need to be connected the Hub by Cat6e.

I have tried using TPLink RE550 extenders, but they just seem to interfere with my broadband access, the same as when I had Sky Broadband.

Hope someone can help please.

Thanks

Yes but a cheap Wireless Access Point (WAP) will do the job and will be cheaper.

Yes

I'm surprised the Solar installer didn't connect your system directly to the Ethernet cable, my installer wouldn't countenance  WiFi.

That's brilliant. Thanks.

In fact, I have found that setting on the TP Link RE550s and it has worked as you suggested, with no negative effect on the broadband.

Thanks again.
