Evening all. Writing in desperation. I have a SH2, and whole home wifi with several discs. Generally been working ok.
But now one of my connected devices, a PC with Windows 11, over wifi, is suddenly constantly disconnecting. If I use other devices in the same location, no issues. I have tried pretty much everything I can think of on the PC, in terms of resetting and reinstalling network adapters, resetting the PC, rolling back Windows 11 to an older version, with no luck. The most common fault appearing is that 'DHCP server not found', and there is no internet. Never seems to be an actual wifi connection issue to the hub. I'm now wondering whether it's a router issue, although no other devices are affected. I've been reading about too may devices, too close in channel, and wondering if that's an issue, or if it's a DHCP problem (I am a technical dullard....).
Any suggestions before I call up for the Microsoft or BT engineer help? Would a factory reset of the Hub be sensible, even though only one device is impacted?
Solved! Go to Solution.
It is well documented that the SH2 runs out of DHCP addresses when used with wireless. This is especially an issue where devices are using MAC randomisation. Only real fix is a factory reset of the SH2, to clear DHCP. Turning off MAC randomisation will help to stop it reoccurring in the future.
Or just simply give your device a static IP address outside of the DHCP range of the hub.
Yeah, good point.
For the technically bereft, how would one do that? Sorry if that’s a dumb question.
Right click start > Settings > Network & internet > Wi-Fi >IP assignment (Edit button)
Put it on manual (if not already)
IPv4 on
IP address 192.168.1.10, (or anything from 1 to 63)
subnet mask 255.255.255.0,
Gateway 192.168.1.254,
DNS 192.168.1.254
Edit: Not a big Wi-Fi user myself, but just plugged a Wi-Fi adapter in and I've missed something. It's under Wi-Fi > Hardware properties > IP assignment. Sorry about that.
Thank you for the swift and clear response. Sadly, unless I’ve done something stupid, it doesn’t seem to have done the trick. I made the changes, and it connected for a few seconds but then dropped out again pretty much straight away as before. I’ve tried factory resetting the hub too, same outcome.
With the router freshly reset, in Win11 Settings>Network&Internet>Advanced Network Settings>Network Reset>Reset Now
You'll need to re-enter the WiFi SSID and Password (or use the WPS button), but if that doesn't work, it'll more than likely be some soft of hardware problem - as likely the computer as the router!
It must be a hardware issue with the PC. I’ve now connected the pc to the BT disc via an Ethernet cable and it’s working fine, no disconnections and no issue with speed. Thanks all. I’ll replace the WiFi card, and see how we get on.
