Daily broadband dropping

I have recently started to experience a periodic, but transient, loss of my broadband signal 2 or 3 times every day. The first occurrence is usually in the morning.

On each occassion for 2 to 3 minutes the broadband light on the Router 3 turns orange before reverting to blue when normal service is resumed.

A recent line test by BT failed to reveal any line problems

Re: Daily broadband dropping

Possibly electrical interference from a central heating boiler thermostat?

If you have a medium wave radio, leave it tuned into a frequency where there is no signal and just background noise.

Then see if you get a loud buzzing sound when the broadband disconnects.

When did this problem start?

Is there anything else connected to your phone line?

Re: Daily broadband dropping

It  has been occurring for a while but seems to be getting more frequent.

And it has occurred at times when the heating is not on

It may not be your boiler, as interference can travel a few houses, or it could be some other electrical device. Listen for any noise as I suggested.

I assume there is nothing else using the phone line?

Is there any noise on your phone calls? Dial 17070 and select option 2, there should be no noise between the announcements.

No noise on the phone line on a quiet line test

And nothing else is plugged into the phone line?

Try checking for interference as I suggested.

Which number matches your master phone  socket?

Single master sockets

Filtered master sockets

Do you have any other extension wiring or phone sockets?

Socket 5

I've had it a long time.

There are two other phone sockets but nothing except phone/answerphones connected

That one can develop a poor connection between the front part, and the test socket, due to oxidisation.

Can you please connect things up as shown on the following picture, and see if the disconnections continue?

Testing from the test socket adsl

At the same time, can you make sure that when that filter plate is removed, that there is no dial tone on any of the other sockets, as they should be wired to the back of the filter, and will be disconnected when you remove the filter.
