Download Speed all over the Place, Upload Speed capped.

As far as I can recall since moving from ADSL to VDSL, i've had issues when gaming.....It's fair to say that the increases in speed have had a drastic influence on my ping/latency in games, causing lag and input delay.

I had better gaming connection using Wifi on ADSL than I currently do using VDSL on Ethernet!

What I can't understand with my connection, is why the sync speed on my router (Tested on 3 different Routers) is far higher than I can achieve.

Below are the stats of my router, and what my router is trying to Sync at.

I would also point out that those two 'Current Rate' figures are always fixed, and never change, whereas my Max Rate varies at least slightly, and the SRN Margin is continuously fluctuating.

Current Rate (Kbps)599739999
Max Rate (Kbps)845645838
SNR Margin (dB)88.4
Line Attenuation (dB)34.116.3
Errors (Pkts)00

Download speed achieved during the test was - 30.82 Mbps

Download speed achieved during the test was - 17.27 Mbps

IP Profile for your line is - 38.67 Mbps

Upload speed achieved during the test was -5.45Mbps

Upstream Rate IP profile on your line is -10 Mbps

I can't even run another test as it keeps telling me I must wait 10 minutes before testing again.....Even though i'm waiting longer.....
Followed by this error too -

The Performance Tester is currently unable to run a speed test for your broadband connection. Please try again shortly, however if this problem persists, raise the issue with your service provider.

tbbx - 21.9 Mbps

(Ping was also constantly fluctuating from 15-50 ms during above tests too).

No wonder my Ping is extremely inconsistent and I get huge delay/slow inputs during games.
Would also explain why when I am watching streams/online videos they are always changing the quality.

All of the above tests were done Wired, with nothing else running on the connection, etc etc.

Re: Download Speed all over the Place, Upload Speed capped.

So, I had a look around my router this morning, disabled both 'BitSwap' and an option labeled 'Disable AELEM'. Interestingly, that actually drastically changed my stats.

My Upload Speed SNR before hand, was labelled as 8 SNR, but is now labelled as 19.7 SNR.....Which I believe is far more accurate.

The Current Speed remains 5997 Kbps, whereas the Max rate is around the 14328 Kbps region.

Carrying out another BT Wholesale Test this morning, the results are still the same.

A fixed, but at the very least consistent, Upload Speed.

Whilst a low, and all over the place, Download Speed.

Download speed achieved during the test was - 23.59 Mbps
For your connection, the acceptable range of speeds is 27.5 Mbps-38.67 Mbps .

IP Profile for your line is - 38.67 Mbps

Upload speed achieved during the test was -5.65Mbps
Upstream Rate IP profile on your line is -10 Mbps

Download Speed falling below minimum guarantee!

Download speed achieved during the test was - 28.84 Mbps
For your connection, the acceptable range of speeds is 27.5 Mbps-38.67 Mbps
IP Profile for your line is - 38.67 Mbps

Upload speed achieved during the test was -9.22Mbps
Upstream Rate IP profile on your line is - 10 Mbps

Router Stats

 UpstreamDownstream
Current Rate599739999
Maximum Rate1433545553
SNR Margin19.68.3
Line Attenuation34.116.3
Errors (Pkts)00

Is there anyway to increase the SNR on my download?

My current Download sync is far too high, it can't reach it, and it's no surprise that the fact the speed is all over the place leads to my line maxing itself out, producing ping spikes, when video streams keep changing their output quality.

Re: Download Speed falling below minimum guarantee!

you look like you are on the essential package 40/10mb connection  as you are 40mb down speed you are getting as good as you pay for  the profile shown on btspeedtester is lower than connection speed to allow for overheads - same for everyone

Re: Download Speed falling below minimum guarantee!

@imjolly

According to your link, my minimum download speed should be 27.4 Mbps......

The speed is falling below that, regularly, so I'm not sure why you posted the link as all it does is prove my point?

Re: Download Speed falling below minimum guarantee!

The dslchecker results shows connection speed not download speed  there is no guarantee on download speeds

post the checker results
