"If i got rid of the smart hub 2..."

Just keep in mind, they will expect you to return it at some point and if you can't, they will charge for it.  Probably best not to dispose of it completely.

No idea whether the EE router would be plug and play.  (I believe it should work, but not sure if it would be exactly plug and play).

I bought the smart hub 2 off eBay for £10 a few years ago

Ah, no problem then.

Edit: Actually, thought occurs, you might be better asking that question on the EE forum.  They'll probably have a better idea about EE kit.

Re: EE Smart Hub 7 Pro on BT internet. Plug and play?

No, the national copper network is NOT being retired in January.

There is a lot of confusion around this.  What is being turned off is the PSTN (Public Switched Telephone Network).  The phone service will now be delivered over the broadband connection BUT that broadband can be on Full Fibre or copper.  The actual "copper" network will be around for many years to come.

In fact, I've just had DV (Digital Voice ) over a copper FTTC connection for three years, before upgrading to Full Fibre FTTP, seven months ago.  DV works quite happily over a copper connection.

It suits Openreach to get people to move to FTTP at the same time as the change to DV, where possible, so they have been quite happy to give the impression the copper network is closing down.

Edit: And I see Jim has mentioned the Business Smart Hub 3.  Just be aware the business SH3 does not support DV.
