Ethernet connection from BT Smarthub 2 to Laptop causing seriously low Upload speed

Hi all

I posted recently about an issue I am having with my Email after update to Digital Voice/BT Smarthub 2

The problem was that I could not receive Emails before the connection was timed

I have now identified a problem which I think is causing the problem

Basically with the Ethernet connection my UPLOAD SPEED has dropped to below 1mbs !!

Whereas disconnecting Ethernet and using WiFi the UPLOAD SPEED is normal at around 15-20 mbs

I would welcome any suggestions as to where I might look for a resolution so I can return to using my Ethernet

Thank you

Regards

Edward

Possibly a faulty network card.

When Ethernet is connected, does it affect the upload or download of other connected devices?

try Factory reset of sh2 by pressing recessed button on back of hub and holding 20/30 secs until lights flash

have you tried a different ethernet cable

"have you tried a different ethernet cable"

Also try a different port on the Hub.

This is a perfect example of why you don't create multiple threads for the same issue. You just waste other members time making the same suggestions that you've already had on the original thread.

Re: Ethernet connection from BT Smarthub 2 to Laptop causing seriously low Upload speed

Hi

I can assure you it is not my intention to waste your time or anybodies.

My original post concerned my inability to pick up  emails immediately after BT changed  my router for Digital Voice

I did not realise this was a symptom of a wider issue not just  involving emails

Hence my recent post was an attempt to broaden the issue to try to understand why an ethernet connection would reduce  my upload speed from 18-20mbs to less than 1mbs

Edward

Re: Ethernet connection from BT Smarthub 2 to Laptop causing seriously low Upload speed

Hi

Thanks for your reply to my post

I have just replaced the Ethernet cable with a new one

Here are the results -

Download speed 71Mbs (As expected)

Upload Speed < 1Mbs (Expected 15 - 20Mbs)

Now tested with Ethernet cable disconnected ie WiFi

Download speed 38Mbs (Roughly half that expected)

Upload speed 18Mbs (As expected)

I cannot understand why these results are so dramatically different

Regards

Edward

Re: Ethernet connection from BT Smarthub 2 to Laptop causing seriously low Upload speed

An issue with the network card on your laptop, probably auto-negotiating the wrong speed.

Do you by any chance have a spare Ethernet switch that you can interpose between the home hub Ethernet port, and your laptop Ethernet port?
