Faster speed on extension socket rather than master test socket

Anybody know why I get a better broadband (infiinty) connection via an extension socket rather than the Master test socket?

Signal to noise ratio is better on the extension upstairs rather than the test socket downstairs.  Not by a big value but Speed drops several mbps on Master test socket.

Re: Faster speed on extension socket rather than master test socket

When you are testing at the test socket, have you checked to see if there is still dial tone on the extension, as it could still be connected elsewhere?

The extension should be dead, if the master socket faceplate is removed.

If the extension is still active, then it will be causing "reflections" back to the test socket, which will distort the broadband signal.

If you test from the extension, this will be seen as the terminal end, and will not experience any reflections.

Re: Faster speed on extension socket rather than master test socket

I have two separate extension lines  through the house, one for phone and the other digital.

They run side by side so there are two sockets in the lounge, one phone and the other digital only.

This second extension gives a better signal than removing the faceplate and using the test socket.

With the faceplate removed, is there dial tone on the second extension?

Not in a position to test at the moment but will give it a try.
