Gstatic Generate 204

Hi All,

I have been using my internet however at times my internet will just stop and try to redirect to  https://www.gstatic.com/generate_204   my chrome then blocks the site telling me that it is dangerous and I am at risk something to do with certificate erroros. My internet then goes down and I can't use it on my computer or mobile for about 20mins.

I first thought it was a virus as thats what came up in google search however i don't see any weird advertisements as suggested. But i have also discovered it is a google owned page as seen on this link below.

https://www.google.com/chrome/privacy/whitepaper.html

Also had the BT guy round and he didn't know. Thought it wasn't to do with BT services

Any help would be useful

Have a quick gander through this.

Is the google pop-up similar to that shown therein? If so, it is possible you could have picked up a redirect virus or some other malware.

Have you run a full virus scan recently? You could also try running Malwarebytes (it is free).

I also ran a Avast and couldn't find anything but I don't know how good anti-virus it is.

Re: Gstatic Generate 204

Hi Karlusha,

I ran malwarebytes and the scan only took about 2 minutes and said I was clean. Starting to think its the internet itself as it is working slowly as well? Any more suggestions

It's still happening. See here for best explanation as to why it happens

@halfhearted

Thanks, there another from last month. Anyone reading this should ignore the offer to download the Gstatic removal tool as the program is harmless, just another googly bowled at us!

Re: Gstatic Generate 204

Thanks. It is a bizarre problem. I have been encountering this in particular using "BTwifi" hot spots. As a BT broadband account holder I used to be able to use BTwifi hot spots in cafes etc to access the internet. Recently I have been getting directed to the blank gstatic page from which there is no escape. I notice some posters believe that this can happen if the connection is poor or maybe slow. There isn't any way to rectify that kind of problem. The page, being static, just consists of a few lines of html which are unchanging, so no clue is provided as to why one has ended up there. It's an enigma.

Reviewing the answers here -

I think the poster called "Bastien Bastien" has the best understanding of what is going on. It seems clear this only happens with Google Chrome browser. The "g" in gstatic is for Google. It sounds like there is absolutely nothing to be done except, in my case,  try logging on to a better hot spot.
