Re: Home Hub 5 wireless issues

Similar issues here with my phone, if i connect to the HH5 wireless it drops out constantly, yet when i connect to bt wifi-fon the connection stays constant, wether the wifi-fon is mine or my neighbours its hard to say. I expect its another poor quality piece of hardware like my original home hub 1 the last a month then got binned. Prove me wrong please

Re: Home Hub 5 wireless issues

Presumable you have disabled all wireless devices when not in use. This seems to cause those events.

There's a new twist here.

I tampered with the hub settings over last weekend. Changed wireless channel 11 to 13, decided it was too weak, changed it back again.

Now there's just no communication whatsoever with remote administration.

00:43:51, 17 Feb.(178193.460000) CWMP: HTTP authentication fail from https://pbthdm.bt.mo

00:43:48, 17 Feb.(178191.000000) CWMP: Session start now. Event code(s): '1 BOOT,4 VALUE CHANGE,2 PERIODIC'

I'll leave things for a day, and then do another factory reset. There's just the odd wireless dropout (twice per day).

I mentioned before that after a factory reset, do not restore your old configuration settings from a backup.

Change your preferences manually.

That is what I have been saying on other threads. The original home hub 1.0, which I have, always recommended that you did a factory reset after a firmware update. Even my TP Link wireless access point manual insists that a factory reset is needed if you upgrade the firmware.

Its a pity that BT do not suggest that people do the same, as it may avoid possible instability issues at a later date.

It may be inconvenient to re-enter any special settings, but it the only way to make sure that you are using the latest configuration file, which matches the current firmware.

I believe that one of the things that the helpdesk will suggest, is a factory reset.

@Keith

It looks that way.

I didn't want to become too involved in the other thread.

Re: Home Hub 5 wireless issues

I haven't disabled any devices, it may be the wifi devices going to sleep when not in use but I haven't turned any devices off. I know most routers say after a firmware upgrade to do a factory reset but Ribblelancs has done about 3 to 4 and you really shouldn't have to do that many just to get your router working. I have factory reset the HH5 twice since the firmware upgrade and don't plan to do another one unless as a last resort.

Re: Home Hub 5 wireless issues

other people's theories on what may be the problem   Re: BT home hub 5 wifi keeps dropping

BT home hub 5 wifi keeps dropping thread

I have a theory on what is happening here. I have been having the same issues as everyone else. I have tried contacting BT about the issue but you might as well just bang your head against a brick wall. They would rather just blame you / your house / your equipment / interference / we don't guarantee wireless coverage etc etc.

Issues are:-

1. Since the last firmware upgrade wireless connectivity on the private side of the router on both 2.4Ghz and 5GHz drops out every 15 - 30 mins simultaneously.

2. The public "btwifi" side of the router doesn't drop out at all. This connection is stable.

3. TR069 remote commands are being sent to the router every thity minutes or so which always precedes the wireless connectivity issue.

4. I have noticed that BTWiFi DHCP addresses are now showing up in the DHCP table.

5. Not an issue but it appears that IPv6 has now been enabled.

My theory is that the router / TR069 server is now confused about which side of the router is public and which side is private.

Scenario 1 is that when the BTWifi side of the router is being used, a command is sent to the router periodically to reset the wireless connection to ensure that the router doesn't get clogged up with devices not being used. This could be helpful in busy places with limited capacity. The fact that the DHCP table is showing assigned IP addresses on the public side could explain this. I have experienced this type of behaviour in an hotel I stayed at last year. Unfortunately it is resetting the private connection.

Scenario 2 is that the TR069 command is resetting the wireless side of the router. Apparently the TR069 server stores a copy of the router setup for the BTWifi connection. It will periodically check the router for correct setup. If any error is present it will reset the wireless settings and then check again in half an hour. If there is any error it will reset it again. If the TR069 server is looking at the private side they will never match and the reset loop starts again! This is probably why the BTWifi connection is always stable.

It would help us all if BT would just admit they have an issue and are working on it rather than just play dumb. Pretty poor for a communications company.

Re: Home Hub 5 wireless issues

I would think that a change is imminent. BT are looking for / at feedback.
No wireless dropouts here today.
I may do a factory reset along the lines I described, however.

While you shouldn't need to do that many resets to get it working, surely if it helps it is worth trying or the other option is leave it and suffer the problems until/if BT resolve it. If you are worried about DLM kicking in just power down the HH then disconnect it and do the factory resets as often as you like. It only needs to be powered on not connected to the line.
