Is BT limiting traffic due to Corona virus?

Go to solution

I have a fiber connection, but it seems that since this whole Corona Virus thing P2P downloads are not working any longer.  Inititialy the download starts just fine but after a few seconds the speeds drop until stopping.
Is BT limiting speeds or download volume of this kind of particular traffic?

BT don't throttle but all ISP's use traffic shaping so if you're downloading P2P during peak hours you could see your speeds reduce. Also, P2P speeds are governed by the upload speeds from the souces so if the files are uploading from countries or locations that are experiencing network congestion this will have an impact.

I don't have problems with P2P. Are you using a VPN?

You can test the speed to your hub from the MyBT app.

Just tap on the three dots ( ... more in the bottom RH corner on Android) and tap Test My Speed

No I am not using a VPN. P2P used to run fine until 1 month ago.

BT claim not to use traffic shaping so I addressed the speed issue

BT claim not to use throttling which is different to shaping. Not to worry, I don't care.

Ok guys, I have found the issue. It's not BT it's how I am saving the file when downloading via P2P. I was using an external USB as I don't have enough HDD space on my mac. So this was causing the issue of the file not downloading, as the client was trying to save the file directly on the USB drive.
